Originally founded in 1996 as Marie Curie Actions, and renamed as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions in 2014, their mission is to support researchers at all career stages in their professional development and ongoing training. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions help scientists from all over the world as well as Europe by fostering multidisciplinary research and international cooperation.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are under the purported “first pillar” of Horizon, “Excellent Science,” and are presently funded under the ninth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, often known as Horizon Europe. MSCA Funding Types

3. Staff Exchanges (SE)

Promoting personnel exchanges as a means of fostering relationships across organisations.

Short-term, cross-sectoral, and worldwide staff exchanges that support participating organisations’ research and innovation initiatives are funded by the Staff Exchanges initiative.

The goal is to create long-term cooperative projects including various academic and non-academic groups (SMEs in particular), with a focus on Europe and beyond.

4. The COFUND

Co-financing of national, international, and regional initiatives. Through co-funding arrangements, the COFUND action provides support for training and career development initiatives at the regional, national, and international levels. It disseminates the best practices of the MSCA by encouraging high standards and first-rate working environments. Eligibility Criteria, Scholarship Benefits, and Variations of This Awards

1. Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Doctoral Networks

In order to teach highly skilled PhD candidates, foster their creativity, strengthen their capacity for innovation, and increase their employability over the long term, PhD Networks seeks to execute doctoral programmes through partnerships with businesses from various industries throughout Europe and beyond.

Living expenses, transportation expenses, and, if available, family, long-term leave, and special needs allowances are among the benefits. Additionally, support is given for management and indirect expenditures, networking, training, and research initiatives.

Key eligibility criteria:

• Can be of any country;
• Must not hold a doctorate at the time of recruitment;
• Must be enrolled in a doctorate programme during the project;
• Must spend at least half of their time outside of academia, for Industrial Doctorates
• Must adhere to the mobility rules: generally speaking, they must have spent more than 12 months of the 36 months leading up to their recruitment date living or engaging in their primary activity (job, study, etc.) in the nation of the recruiting organisation.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Postdoctoral Fellowships initiative aims to support PhD holders who want to advance their careers, learn new skills, and conduct research overseas. PFs facilitate researchers’ experience abroad, across disciplines, and in non-academic fields.

Living expenses, transportation expenses, and, if available, family, long-term leave, and special needs allowances are among the benefits. Additionally, support is given for management and indirect expenditures, networking, training, and research initiatives.

Key eligibility criteria:

• Hold a PhD at the time of the application deadline. Candidates who have successfully defended their doctoral theses but have not yet received their doctorate in writing will also be accepted for application.
• A maximum of eight years of research experience from the date of the PhD degree’s award is required. Years of experience outside of research, career breaks, or years of research experience in third countries will not count towards the above maximum for nationals of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate into Europe.
• Must adhere to mobility rules: for European Postdoctoral Fellowships, they cannot have lived in the beneficiary’s nation or, for Global Postdoctoral Fellowships, the host organisation throughout the outgoing period, where they may have pursued their primary activity (job, study, etc.).for longer than a year throughout the 36 months leading up to the call deadline.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Staff Exchanges

Financing temporary staff exchanges between commercial, industrial, and academic institutions worldwide.

In addition to their organization’s income, the researcher also receives a Top-up Allowance to help with travel, lodging, and sustenance expenses. an allowance for exceptional requirements, if any. Additionally, support is given for management and indirect expenditures, networking, training, and research initiatives.

Key eligibility criteria:

• Any nationality and career level of research personnel, from those preparing for a PhD to seasoned researchers, are eligible to participate in a secondment. Employees with administrative, technical, or management responsibilities are also eligible to participate.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes

Benefits: Up to €10 million. Duration: Up to 5 years.

Supplying organisations with extra funding so they can sponsor their own plans for career development and researcher training.

Key eligibility criteria:

• A government ministry, regional body, financial agency, institution, research organisation, or business should be the primary participants in each proposal.
• Doctorate candidates and seasoned researchers can apply directly to the funding agency by using Euraxess, a jobs platform for researchers, to find openings for co-funded programmes.
