Timeline
Atlas Corps evaluates suitable applications throughout the year on a rolling basis, yet you are encouraged to submit your application before the earliest deadline listed in the Apply Now section of their website as soon as possible. When you apply to the program, you’re not applying for a specific start date or a specific Host Organisation, but applying for the opportunity to be considered by Atlas Corps (and potential Host Organisations) for leadership development programs starting throughout the year.
The Atlas Corps Fellow Classes start approximately four times a year (typically January, April, July, and October). Placement cycles where we match top Semi-Finalists with our submitted Host roles take place approximately 2-4 months prior to the next Fellowship start date. For example, Fellows placed for their January class are from September to November, and their July class, from March to May).
If it is not possible to bring individual Fellows to the U.S. due to travel, visa, or safety guidelines, alternative program options will discussed with those Fellows individually (which may include our Blended Fellowship, combining remote service with in-person service).
Atlas Corps Fellowship Category 1: 12-month In-Person Fellowship in the U.S.
The Atlas Corps In-Person Fellowship is designed for the world’s top social change leaders, where Fellows serve full-time with Host Organisations to develop leadership skills and learn effective practices through the Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab professional development series and networking opportunities with other Fellows.
Participants may join the activities of the Fellowship within the United States, such as U.S. holiday celebrations, group cultural activities like a D.C. Monuments Tour, and sporting events, etc. The Fellowship may last 12 full months if a participant chooses to participate in all activities within this time frame. A participant may extend the Fellowship for an additional 6 months if it is agreed to by the Host Organisation and the Participant.
In addition to full-time service at their Host Organisation (an average of 40 hours per week), Fellows will also participate in over 200 hours of in-person and virtual training through our Global Leadership Lab. Atlas Corps sponsors the J-1 Trainee visa, which allows foreign nationals to visit the U.S. for roughly a year or as long as three years.
Atlas Corps even offers each Fellow a living stipend to cover everyday expenses (food, local transportation, and shared housing), a monthly phone plan, national and international emergency medical insurance, and round-trip international airfare. For further inquiries regarding this, check out our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Atlas Corps Fellowship Category 2: Blended (Remote and US-based) 14-Month Fellowship
The Blended Fellowship draws upon virtual service from Fellows -based countries, along with service in the United States, and in-person and virtual training through their Global Leadership Lab. A Blended Fellowship (including the remote and in-person components) may last from 1 to 14 months, depending on whether a Host and the Fellow agree to extend it. This fellowship typically includes:
- Service in the U.S.
- Global Leadership Lab & Global Network.
- Service from Fellows’ home countries.
Further clarifications regarding these can be obtained here.
